Beetlejuice is an American-Canadian animated television series which ran from 1989-1991. Loosely based on the 1988 film of the same name, it was developed and produced by the film's director Tim Burton. The series focuses on the life of Goth girl Lydia Deetz and her undead friend Beetlejuice as they explore the Neitherworld (a play on the Netherworld, another name for the Underworld; pronounced "nee-thur-world"), a wacky afterlife realm inhabited by monsters, ghosts, ghouls, and zombies. Danny Elfman arranged the theme himself. Unlike the film, which would be rated R by modern standards, the show today would have a Y7 rating (about PG by modern standards). The show was aired on Nick in reruns.

Characters

  • Beetlejuice- an undead creature and star of the film and show
  • Lydia Deetz- a Goth girl who is BJ's only human friend
  • Jacques Skellington- a French skeleton who loves to sing "Allouette"
  • Ginger- a tap dancing spider who speaks with a New York accent. Voiced by Ginger Rogers.
  • The Monster Across the Street- A tall, hairy, monster from the West who has no eyes but big, pink lips. He resembles Gossamer from Looney Tunes.
  • Poopsie- The Monster's dog

Trivia

The film and show get their name from a pun on the star Betelgeuse, which is in the constellation Orion. The inspiration was that Betelgeuse is in Orion's armpit.
